Citizens National Bank Cameron Branch President, Joe Mahan, began his banking career in 2002. A Tarleton State University undergraduate alumnus with a B.S. in Criminal Justice, Mahan had been working in the prison system for eight years when a bank owner in Bartlett, Texas recognized natural talent from this straight-shooter. Later, Mahan would credit his seemingly unrelated criminal justice experience with preparing him to be a better banker. “I learned to have better respect for all” — and to largely keep personal feelings out of business decisions.
Learning the business firsthand from the ground up, he began as a teller and has risen the ranks to becoming the Rockdale Branch President in 2015, and the Cameron Branch President in 2018. Mahan is a 2004 graduate of TIB Lending School and a 2015 graduate of SW Graduate School of Banking. A local Lions Club member for about 15 years now, Mahan is a proud member of Marlow Baptist Church in Cameron.
Born in Georgia, Mahan grew up and graduated high school in Brownwood, Texas. He is married with two daughters. Mahan enjoys calf roping, show lambs, football, and baseball. Little-known-fact: Joe is also an inventor, owning a U.S. patent for a spill-proof pet dish.
When it comes to the big picture, Mahan suggests being a “joyful giver”. That is, giving to others not because of what you might receive in return, but for the happiness your gift provides others.
